Eyelid disorders / Ectropion
Suffering from these symptoms?
Dry, painful eyes
Eyelids turned outward
Watery eyes
Redness in the lid and white of the eye
What is ectropion?
As the lower eyelid turns away from the eye, it exposes the lining of the eye (conjunctiva) to the air – causing redness, swelling, irritation and excessive tear production. The most common cause is ageing, but it can also be caused by scarring and facial palsy.
How is it treated?
Ectropion can be corrected surgically by tightening the eyelid, by skin graft – or a combination of both. Surgery is performed in day theatre under local anaesthesia, with a little bit of intravenous sedation to make you more comfortable.
