Our ophthalmologists serve the community through a number of local initiatives.
All our doctors participate in the annual Eye Care Awareness programme.
More than meets the eye
We are passionate about people.
Drs Keet and Cole provide eye care services at Helderberg Hospital in Somerset West. Dr Cole runs the weekly eye clinic and both doctors perform cataract surgery at this facility.
Dr Lenake is a visiting consultant in the Ophthalmology departments at Groote Schuur Hospital and the Red Cross Children’s Hospital where she assists in the running of the oculoplastic clinics and registrar teaching.
Dr Van Biljon engages in community service in Bredasdorp, where he offers free monthly consultations to state patients, at a local optometrist’s rooms.
Hope in sight
In order to raise awareness about eye health and to thank the local community for their support, our doctors performed cataract surgeries on deserving state patients who had been waiting for surgery for an extended period. These procedures were performed in October 2017 as part of the annual Eyecare Awareness initiative. Somerset Surgery kindly provided the operating theatre and Dr LC Marais was the anaesthetist on the day.
Dr Keet has been part of this initiative for more than 18 years and has helped over 100 patients.
